Setting sail on December 21, 2027, from the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, this voyage offers the chance to explore one of Earth’s most remote regions over Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Guided by an expedition team of naturalists, glaciologists, and marine biologists, guests can experience the White Continent through lectures and guided shore excursions.
The cruise segment starts and ends in Ushuaia. The lowest-priced suite on this voyage can currently be booked at €18,930 per person. Additional suite categories are available for a surcharge (see table below). In addition to the cruise, prices include a pre-cruise hotel night in Buenos Aires as well as round-trip domestic flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. Passenger capacity on this Antarctic expedition is capped at a maximum of 200 guests to ensure optimal landing conditions.

The Route
Your journey begins in Buenos Aires, where you will spend a pre-cruise night at a hotel assigned by the cruise line before embarking. After check-in, you have time to explore the vast metropolis, often referred to as the Paris of South America.
The following day, you fly from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. As the world’s southernmost city, Ushuaia serves as the starting point for your expedition cruise. On the first sea day, the ship transits the famous (and notoriously wavy) Drake Passage, connecting South America with Antarctica.
On December 25, the Scenic Eclipse II reaches Antarctica. Home to over 40 species of birds, the region is a paradise for birdwatching. Keep an eye out from the open decks or your private balcony for wandering albatrosses—boasting the largest wingspan of any living bird—alongside petrels and other species.
Portal Point, a historic British refuge hut, and Deception Island are among potential stops during your Antarctic voyage. Nestled within the South Shetland Islands archipelago, Deception Island is one of the few places worldwide where ships can sail directly into the submerged caldera of an active volcano. Around 12 million penguins across various species inhabit Antarctica, many of which can be observed during shore landings.
The Lemaire Channel, famous for its picturesque views and often dubbed ‘Kodak Alley,’ is another scheduled highlight. This 11-kilometer-long passage measures just 600 meters wide at its narrowest point. During the transit, you will pass dramatic mountain cliffs and bright blue icebergs.
On the return journey toward South America, the ship transits the Drake Passage once more. Following breakfast on the final day, disembarkation takes place before your return flight to Buenos Aires.
Due to the extraordinary nature of the region, shore excursions and the exact routing during this expedition cruise are subject to ice and weather conditions. The Ship
Built in 2023, the Scenic Eclipse II is 168 meters (551 feet) long. The design of the Eclipse resembles a megayacht more than a traditional cruise ship. This luxury vessel accommodates a maximum of 228 passengers (limited to 200 on cruises to Antarctica). The passenger-to-crew ratio is nearly 1:1, enabling highly personalized and attentive service. The ship’s average cruising speed is 17 knots.
In addition to two Airbus H130-T2 helicopters for flightseeing tours and excursions (at an additional cost), the ship features a submarine capable of diving up to 300 meters (984 feet) deep (at an additional cost) and a remote-controlled underwater vehicle that can stream live footage back to the ship.
The Scenic Eclipse II features 114 suites, ranging in size from 32 m2 (344 sq ft) for the Verandah Suites up to 247 m2 (2,658 sq ft) for the Two-Bedroom Penthouse Suite. All guests on board enjoy the services of a butler. The ship’s onboard theater hosts a daily entertainment program and lectures.
The ship offers a variety of dining venues, including Elements (Italian, steak, and seafood), Koko’s (Asian fusion, sushi, and teppanyaki), Lumière (contemporary French fine dining), and the casual Azure Bar & Café. These dining options are fully included in the cruise fare. You also have the option of in-suite dining. The beverage selection features a wide range of complimentary drinks, including premium international wines, spirits, beers, specialty coffees, teas, and soft drinks.
The onboard language is English, and the onboard currency is the US dollar. Any incidental expenses can be conveniently settled at the end of the cruise using major credit cards.

The expedition package starts and ends in Buenos Aires. Internal flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia are already included in the cruise fare. For the December 2027 / January 2028 travel period, commercial long-haul international flights are not yet available for booking. International round-trip flights to Buenos Aires over the Christmas holiday period should be budgeted at approx. €1,300 to €1,400 in economy class.
