Scenic Eclipse Antarktis Aussenansicht

The ultra-luxury Discovery Yacht Scenic Eclipse II operated by Scenic Luxury Cruises embarks on an extraordinary expedition to the White Continent in early 2027. This adventure of a lifetime begins on February 25, 2027, in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires. Antarctica is a destination that defies all expectations, renowned for untouched icebergs, towering glaciers, and rich polar wildlife. Guided by an expert Discovery Team of naturalists, glaciologists, and marine biologists, you will explore the polar wilderness through in-depth lectures and daily guided excursions.

The cruise sails round-trip from Ushuaia, with entry-level luxury suites currently bookable starting at €15,145 per person (higher suite categories are available at a surcharge). In addition to the cruise itself, the price includes a pre-cruise luxury hotel stay in Buenos Aires as well as round-trip domestic charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. Guest capacity in polar regions is strictly capped at just 200 passengers to guarantee an intimate, uncompromised expedition experience.

Compared to booking directly on scenic.cruises, we can offer an exclusive price advantage of up to €3,955 per person on the Deluxe Veranda Suite!

Important IAATO Landing Regulations

Under Antarctic environmental guidelines (IAATO), a maximum of 100 passengers are allowed ashore simultaneously. Because the Scenic Eclipse II carries a maximum of 200 guests in Antarctica, passengers are seamlessly rotated in two groups between Zodiac safaris, kayaking excursions, and shore landings.

The Route

Your journey begins with an overnight hotel stay in Buenos Aires, arranged by the cruise line. After checking in, you have time to explore the vibrant Argentine capital, often called the Paris of South America.

The following morning, you take a charter flight south to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, where you board the Scenic Eclipse II. Setting sail in the evening, the vessel crosses the legendary Drake Passage, where seabirds such as the wandering albatross glide alongside the ship’s observation decks.

On March 1, the ship reaches the Antarctic Peninsula. Weather permitting, potential landing sites include Portal Point and Deception Island in the South Shetland Islands—one of the few places on Earth where a vessel can sail directly into the flooded caldera of an active volcano. Millions of penguins, including gentoo, chinstrap, and Adélie colonies, inhabit these coastlines alongside seals and feeding humpback whales.

Another planned highlight is navigating the narrow, 11-kilometer-long Lemaire Channel (often nicknamed “Kodak Alley”), where shear granite cliffs rise dramatically above iceberg-filled waters. After six unforgettable days exploring the peninsula, the yacht turns back north across the Drake Passage, arriving back in Ushuaia where you disembark for your return flight to Buenos Aires.

Expedition Flexibility Note

Due to the unpredictable nature of polar environments, all shore landings, Zodiac cruises, and navigation routes depend strictly on prevailing sea ice, wind, and weather conditions. The Captain and Expedition Leader determine the exact daily itinerary to ensure maximum safety and optimal wildlife viewing.

The Ship

Built in 2023, the Scenic Eclipse II is 168 meters (551 feet) long. The design of the Eclipse resembles a megayacht more than a traditional cruise ship. This luxury vessel accommodates a maximum of 228 passengers (limited to 200 on cruises to Antarctica). The passenger-to-crew ratio is nearly 1:1, enabling highly personalized and attentive service. The ship’s average cruising speed is 17 knots.

In addition to two Airbus H130-T2 helicopters for flightseeing tours and excursions (at an additional cost), the ship features a submarine capable of diving up to 300 meters (984 feet) deep (at an additional cost) and a remote-controlled underwater vehicle that can stream live footage back to the ship.

The Scenic Eclipse II features 114 suites, ranging in size from 32 m2 (344 sq ft) for the Verandah Suites up to 247 m2 (2,658 sq ft) for the Two-Bedroom Penthouse Suite. All guests on board enjoy the services of a butler. The ship’s onboard theater hosts a daily entertainment program and lectures.

The ship offers a variety of dining venues, including Elements (Italian, steak, and seafood), Koko’s (Asian fusion, sushi, and teppanyaki), Lumière (contemporary French fine dining), and the casual Azure Bar & Café. These dining options are fully included in the cruise fare. You also have the option of in-suite dining. The beverage selection features a wide range of complimentary drinks, including premium international wines, spirits, beers, specialty coffees, teas, and soft drinks.

The onboard language is English, and the onboard currency is the US dollar. Any incidental expenses can be conveniently settled at the end of the cruise using major credit cards.
