Hong Kong is a city that offers so much: An impressive skyline, theme parks, Chinese markets, hills, and much more. It also allows you to experience a city with loads of Chinese culture, without the downsides of actually being in China (such as the internet censorship). It is also located right next to the Asian Las Vegas, Macao.
If your heart is set on travelling to Hong Kong, we’ll try to get you there as cheap as possible – but also as comfortably as possible. No hidden luggage fees, no terrible layovers. Let us take care of you – no matter if you wish to fly economy or are accustomed to flying in business class.

Economy Class
When we’re talking about cheap, economy class is obviously the way to go. However, what so often seems cheap, nowadays comes with downsides like long layovers or having 0 baggage allowance. This is why the following options, all fulfill the following criteria:
- No long layovers, so you get there quickly
- Prices including luggage and board service, so that the price is actually the final price
- Alliance members, so you can enjoy priority services and lounge access with your status
- No prices higher than €600, so you don’t overpay for the convenience
So, these are the cheapest options to fly to Hong Kong from Europe:
Milan: €392 with Air China
Often, flights with Air China are the cheapest option, but also come with very long layovers. Luckily, this is not the case here. You’ll usually have layovers under 3:30 hours in Chengdu or Beijing. Also, the cheapest fare directly includes 23 kg of checked luggage.

The availability calendar below displays all flights matching our criteria for €400 or less. It will forward you to Trip.com. You can also book on Air China’s website for a similar price, but we personally find Trip.com to be more reliable and customer-friendly (for English speakers) than Chinese airlines.

Dublin: €568 with Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines is a true full-service carrier. In economy class, you get hot meals (even on the feeder flights) and 30 kg of free luggage. On the long-haul flight, you even get a proper amenity kit and the most comfortable economy class pillows of any airline worldwide (in my opinion, at least). From Dublin, the round-trip to Hong Kong costs €568. The layovers in Istanbul are perfect – only 1h50 in each direction, ensuring that you get to your destination quickly.

Copenhagen: €577 with SWISS
SWISS technically doesn’t offer full service. It’s cheapest fare, for instance, doesn’t include luggage. However, the Star Alliance member only charges €60 more for the fare that includes 23 kg of luggage – a fair price, especially considering that the Light fare starts at only €517. The flight times are also very convenient, e.g. departing from Hong Kong at 23:00 in the night, allowing you to enjoy another full day in the bustling metropolis, and arriving in Copenhagen at 9:00 in the morning. This makes SWISS the cheapest and best option from Copenhagen.

Helsinki: €599 with Turkish Airlines
Our economy class section ends with the last fare that barely made it under the €600 ceiling. Once again, it’s Turkish Airlines, with all the benefits that I already mentioned. The layover on the way back is a bit longer, lasting almost 5 hours, but that should still be bareable. If you want, you can also opt for an even longer layover and get a free guided tour of Istanbul.

We decided against adding a premium economy section to this article. If, however, this is your preferred travel class, the only airline offering acceptable prices currently is Finnair, e.g. €1,074 from Brussels or €1,077 from Frankfurt. Luggage adds another €80 to the prices.
Business Class
When we published a similar article about flights to Bali, we only focussed on economy class. However, we were asked if we could add business class options next time. As always, your wishes are our command.
For business class, the same rules apply (short layovers & alliance members), plus we added that lounge access has to be included. We set the price limit at €2,100. Anything higher than that doesn’t make much sense, in our opinion.
Sadly, only few airlines offer business class tickets to Hong Kong that fulfil these criteria: Turkish Airlines from 4 countries (more on that in a bit), and Lufthansa from Brussels. If these options aren’t appealing to you, we’d recommend entering our Whatsapp or Telegram groups for business class tickets:

Brussels: €1,982 with Lufthansa (Allegris)
Lufthansa has some acceptable business class prices to Hong Kong, if you depart from Brussels. You’d even be flying in Lufthansa’s newly-certified Allegris business class in their Boeing 787. Lufthansa’s new business class comes with a few issues: there are 7(!) different seat types, and most of them come with an extra surcharge. However, it definitely is more modern and spacious than the old 2-2-2 configuration.

Stockholm: €2,014 with Qatar Airways
While for over a year, Turkish Airlines used to be the best option from Sweden to Stockholm, that has literally ended today. Last night, Turkish Airlines killed the fare and it now costs €2,000 more than before (which made us have to rewrite this entire section, as we had prepared this article yesterday. Thanks, Turkish Airlines). Anyways, while this option is €300 more expensive, many will appreciate it nonetheless, as Qatar Airways has quite a lot of fans. The gulf carrier actually charges almost €2,500 for the fare that includes lounge access. However, if you book the ticket with an Iberia flight number, lounge access is included even in the cheapest fare.

The availability calendar below displays all flights matching our criteria for €2,100 or less. It will forward you to Trip.com. Remember to select the slightly more expensive Iberia flights instead of the Qatar flights. Both are the exact same flight, but Iberia lets you enter the lounge.

Oslo: €2,035 with Cathay Pacific
(Almost) another casualty from Turkish Airlines’ sale dropping dead at the worst possible time were departures from Oslo. While Turkish Airlines was roughly €200 cheaper, there are still options remaining: Both Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa sell tickets that fulfill our criteria and remain available for less than €2,100. Though it is a close call, with prices starting at NOK 22,921 (~€2,028).

Editor’s Note: This format is still very new and we’re still experimenting around. Sadly, it was shot in the foot by Turkish Airlines killing its seemingly never-ending business class deal last night. Nevertheless, please be so kind as to leave a comment with your thoughts on the format. What can we do better?

Information & Tips for Hong Kong
Hong Kong is known for its skyline, Victoria Peak, harbour views, and a mix of modern and traditional sights like temples and street markets. The local currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD), and credit cards are widely accepted, though cash is still useful in smaller shops and markets. Prices are relatively high compared to much of Asia, especially for accommodation and dining. The weather is hot and humid in summer, with a cooler, more pleasant season from October to March. Typhoons can occur between June and October.
