With the Summer Rail Pass, you can travel across Slovakia for 7 consecutive days for €35. This offer is valid for second class travel between July 1 and August 31, 2026.

The ticket can be purchased locally at the ticket counters of ZSSK (Slovak railway company). It is also available online here.

For travelers aged 25 and under, the weekly ticket costs only €19. However, this option requires a Junior Card, which costs €15 per year.

Unfortunately, there is an additional charge for IC trains and the SuperCity Pendolino. The exact details can also be found on the Slovak railway company’s website.

Students under 26 years old and seniors 62 years and older can generally travel for free on ZSSK trains in Slovakia. However, they must register on-site at one of the ticket offices to receive the appropriate “Railcard.” The registration form for students is quite long. More information can be found here.

Terms & Conditions

Please note the following conditions:

  • You are allowed to use all trains of the Slovak railway throughout Slovakia, but:
    • For InterCity trains, an additional payment (according to this site) is required.
    • For the SuperCity Pendolino, a surcharge of €1 is required (including seat reservation).
  • Seat reservations and sleeper/couchette tickets must be paid in full.
  • The ticket is non-transferable and is bound to one person.
  • The ticket is valid for 7 consecutive days.
  • The ticket can be used up to August 31, 2026 at the latest.
  • The ticket is only valid in second class (first class is only possible with a surcharge and seat reservation).
  • Taking a bicycle requires an obligatory reservation on most long-distance trains.
  • OBB Railjet trains cannot be used with the ticket. Also, trains of private providers, such as RegioJET, cannot be used.
  • Tickets can be refunded up to one day before the start of validity for a 10% fee.

Overall, this is an interesting alternative to Interrail if you only want to focus on Slovakia.
