Airbus A350 SAS

To celebrate its 80th anniversary, SAS Scandinavian Airlines is once again offering its Family & Friends fare for both short-haul and long-haul flights. Depending on the route, discounts of up to 40% are available, and in some cases even more.

Now, we do not expect most of you to happen to have a SAS employee among your friends or family. Fortunately, the definition of “friends” appears to be fairly broad. And fortunately, the required five-digit access code is being widely shared on Facebook. If you do not have a Facebook account, this Instagram post may be able to help instead.

Interesting deals this time are primarily found on short-haul routes within Europe. That said, there are still a few worthwhile long-haul examples. Here are some sample fares with and without the Family & Friends discount:

  • Economy Light Stockholm → Berlin for €39 instead of €56 one-way (-30%)
(on other dates, even greater savings may be possible)
  • Economy Light Visby → Hamburg for €64 instead of €108 one-way (-40%)
  • Economy Light Berlin → San Francisco for €424 instead of €556 (-24%)
  • Premium Economy Berlin → New York for €788 instead of €1,062 roundtrip (-26%)
  • Premium Economy Vienna → New York for €906 instead of €1,280 roundtrip (-29%)

SAS advertises discounts of between 5% and 50% off the base fare. On European routes, savings of more than 50% are sometimes possible, especially if you are tied to a specific travel date.

In theory, long-haul Business Class is also discounted. The best fare we were able to find was €1,305 for an itinerary with Business Class in one direction and Premium Economy on the return (or vice versa).

Conditions

Below is a brief overview of the main restrictions and conditions:

  • Booking period: Until June 9, 2026
  • Travel period: June 29 to December 17, 2026
  • Only flights operated by SAS (or SAS Connect, BRA, etc.) are eligible
  • Depending on the fare, change fees may apply
  • Only a limited number of discounted tickets are available on each flight
  • Mixed-cabin bookings (e.g. outbound in Premium Economy, return in Economy) are also possible
  • Miles are credited in the same way as for regular paid tickets, based on booking class
  • The website makes no mention of any requirement to provide proof of eligibility. We have used similar promotions multiple times in the past without any issues.

How It Works

To book, you first need to access the SAS Family & Friends page. There, you will be asked to enter the access code mentioned above:

You will then be taken to the standard SAS booking interface, where you can select your origin, destination, and travel dates. During price selection, there are two possible scenarios:

Option 1: A new fare called SAS For You or SAS For You Smart appears, which is normally not available.

Option 2: The regular fares are displayed, but at discounted prices. In that case, it is best to compare the fare in a second (incognito) browser tab to see the actual savings.

The website includes a fare calendar with struck-through prices that is intended to compare prices with and without the discount. However, it is not always accurate. One thing is certain: booking through the promotion page will never cost more than the regular fare.
