Globe Earth

Half a year after the last collection of ideas for a round-the-world trip, we have once again gone in search of affordable options. The basis for this was two round-the-world building blocks that we recently presented to you. This made it possible to even include Fiji in the South Pacific for a flight price of under €1,000. In total, 11 cities in 9 countries are part of the sample routing.

Of course, you have to make a few compromises. The lowest price only includes hand luggage, with the smallest common denominator being 55 x 36 x 20 cm, 7 kg. Fortunately, the surcharge for checked baggage is moderate: at least 20 kg on all segments brings the total price to roughly €1,160.

Our sample routing lasts a good two months in total, from the end of April to the beginning of July 2026, and covers 9 countries. Naturally, we are aware that hardly anyone will book exactly this example. It should primarily be seen as inspiration for what is possible with a clever combination of individually booked tickets.

Info

When planning a round-the-world trip, it is of course even more important to keep an eye on the entry requirements for all destinations. Also make sure you have enough blank pages in your passport. We have not included any potential costs for visas, ESTA, etc. in the price. This also applies to New Zealand’s tourist levy, which together with the NZeTA amounts to around €60.

Almost all flights are booked as separate tickets. The rule here is: the more tickets and flights, the greater the chance that something goes wrong. We therefore recommend planning at least a 3-day buffer between all long-haul flights.

Overview

Either the first or last journey of this trip takes you from London to Dublin – depending on whether you start your journey in Ireland or the UK – given that you even want to close the circle. Your first stop from Dublin is Toronto. From Canada’s largest city, we continue overland to Niagara Falls and cross the border into the United States. This makes for an affordable trip onward to the US West Coast. Fiji Airways takes us from L.A. to Fiji and onward to New Zealand, all for the bargain price of just €300. From Australia back to Europe, there are several reasonably priced options. We opted for stopovers in Vietnam, Malaysia, and London.

Segments

These are all segments of the journey pictured above:

Flight 1: Dublin – Toronto

The cheapest transtatlantic one-way is currently offered by WestJet. Prices start at €95 (or €108 directly at Westjet) for trips from Dublin to Toronto. Since the price is only available in April, this severly limits the starting window for this trip.

  • Airline: Westjet
  • Availability: Only in April. Price jump to €170 in March/April (Google Flights)
  • Included services:
    • ✔ Personal Item (41 x 33 x 14 cm)
    • ✔ Cabin bag (56 x 36 x 23 cm)
    • ❌ Checked bags – adds €50 on Westjet.com (included w/ Delta SkyMiles status)
    • ❓ food & beverarge
DUB YYZ 95

Alternatives: Dublin – Halifax with Westjet for the same price. Or Paris – Calgary for approx. €180.

Ground Transport: To Buffalo via Niagara Falls

From Toronto, you could of course fly directly on to the United States. But if you are already in Toronto, a trip to Niagara Falls is well worth it anyway. And from there, it is only a short hop across the American border.

Travel to Niagara Falls is particularly inexpensive on weekends. A day pass on GO Transit trains costs just CA$10 (~€6) and even includes the return journey. On weekdays, you can take a long-distance bus from around €10, or travel with GO Transit trains from CA$18 (~€11).

In Niagara Falls, you can then walk across the Rainbow Bridge on foot ($1 toll) and view the falls from the American side as well. From Niagara Falls, NY, a city bus runs to Buffalo for $2. Alternatively, you can take Flixbus for €5.50 directly from the Canadian side to Buffalo Airport.

Alternatives: From Toronto nonstop to Los Angeles (from €146) or San Francisco (from €150, with a connection). Alternatively, travel from Toronto by bus (6 hours) or train (4 hours to Windsor) to Detroit and fly from there.

Flight 2: Buffalo – Los Angeles

From Buffalo, JetBlue offers nonstop flights to Los Angeles (from €96), but these only begin at the end of May. Therefore, in early May we need to make one connection. Fares start at €100 with either United Airlines, American Airlines, or Delta Air Lines to California. Without frequent flyer status, United should be avoided, as not even a full-size carry-on bag is included there.

  • Airline: American, United, or Delta
  • Availability: year-round (Google Flights)
  • Included services (for American):
    • ✔ Personal item (45 x 35 x 20 cm)
    • ✔ Carry-on baggage (56 x 36 x 23 cm)
    • ❌ Checked baggage, 23 kg from 35 USD, included with Oneworld status
    • ❌ Catering (drinks + cookie only)
BUF LAX 100E

Alternatives: From Niagara Falls to New York City (approx. €40 by train/bus) and onward to the West Coast. Or from Buffalo to San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, also available from approx. €100.

Flights 3 + 4: Los Angeles – Fiji – Auckland

Fiji Airways takes you from Los Angeles to New Zealand from €215. In this case, we added a Fiji stopover for a surcharge of €76. After all, when else do you get the chance to be in the South Pacific?

Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji, covers no less than 10,000 square kilometers. If you want to experience the famous beaches with crystal-clear water, you should head to the southwest of the island, the Coral Coast, or continue on to one of the many nearby islands.

In Fiji, a stay of any length is possible, even several weeks if you wish, before continuing on to New Zealand.

  • Airline: Fiji Airways
  • Availability: March to June and August to December 2026 (Google Flights / Multistop)
  • Included services:
    • ✔ Personal item
    • ✔ Carry-on baggage (55 x 40 x 23 cm)
    • ✔ 30 kg checked baggage
    • ✔ Catering
FJ LAX AKL 330

Alternatives:

  • Several options from the USA to Australia at €250 w/ Fiji Airways (=no New Zealand)
  • Los Angeles – Auckland at €330 w/ Delta (nonstop)
  • San Francisco – Fiji (w/ Stopover) – Auckland at €367 w/ Fiji Airways

Flight 5: Auckland – Sydney

In New Zealand, you should see more than just Auckland. The country is, after all, known for its natural beauty. Ideally, rent a car or alternatively travel by long-distance bus across the North and South Islands. A domestic flight may also be worthwhile, for example to Queenstown and from there on to Milford Sound.

What you ultimately make of your stay in New Zealand is, of course, very individual. For the sake of simplicity and to keep the total price under €1,000, we assume a connecting flight directly from Auckland. From €108, you can fly from there to Sydney.

  • Airline: Air New Zealand
  • Availability: year-round (Google Flights)
  • Included services:
    • ✔ Personal item
    • ✔ Carry-on baggage (55 x 40 x 23 cm, max. 7 kg)
    • ❌ Checked baggage, 23 kg from €26 on AirNZ.com, no baggage included in the Light fare even for frequent flyers
    • ❌ Catering
AKL SYD 108E

Alternatives: Wellington – Sydney from €117 with Air New Zealand, Queenstown – Sydney from €126 with Jetstar Airways, or one of the numerous other routes from New Zealand to Australia. A detour to Tasmania is also worthwhile.

Flight 6: Sydney – Ho Chi Minh City

From Australia, there are various options to continue on to Asia. Affordable destinations include Bali, Singapore, and Ho Chi Minh City. And instead of flying directly onward from Sydney, you can of course also explore Sydney, Adelaide, and other cities in Australia.

Hint

If you want to save some money in Sydney, take the bus to Mascot Station and from there the train into the city. This way, you avoid the A$18 (~€11) airport surcharge in both directions.

For our sample route, we opted for a nonstop flight onward to Vietnam. This is available via Trip.com from €114, or €124 with 20 kg of checked baggage.

  • Airline: VietJet Air (or Jetstar Airways)
  • Availability: year-round (Google Flights)
  • Included services:
    • ✔ Personal item (40 x 30 x 10 cm)
    • ✔ Carry-on baggage (56 x 36 x 23 cm, max. 7 kg)
    • ❌ Checked baggage, 20 kg from €10 surcharge
    • ❌ Catering
VJ SYD SGN 157

Alternatives: There are plenty. For example, Perth – Kuala Lumpur from €89, Melbourne – Singapore from €126, or Sydney – Bali from €149. Flights to Seoul, South Korea, are also available for under €200. And if you prefer to skip the Asia segment altogether, you can fly directly from Sydney back to Frankfurt for €330.

Flight 7: Ho Chi Minh City – Kuala Lumpur

Flights within Asia are fortunately affordable. We therefore fly from Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for €41. You could just as easily visit Singapore, Bangkok, Phuket, Penang, and more before heading back to Europe. This would only increase the total price slightly.

  • Airline: AirAsia X
  • Availability: year-round (Google Flights)
  • Included services:
    • ✔ Personal item (40 x 30 x 10 cm)
    • ✔ Carry-on baggage (56 x 36 x 23 cm, max. 7 kg incl. personal item)
    • ❌ Checked baggage, 20 kg from €7 surcharge with the Value Bundle
    • ❌ Catering, included with the Value Bundle
SGN KUL 41E

Alternatives: There are too many options within Asia to list them all here. Expect to pay around €30 to €50 per flight within Southeast Asia.

Flight 8: Kuala Lumpur – London

Just a few days ago, AirAsia X launched its new connection from Kuala Lumpur via Bahrain to London. Unfortunately, it is no longer quite as cheap as it used to be, but €129 is still a good price, provided you can endure 16 hours in a 3-3-3 configuration on an Airbus A330.

  • Airline: AirAsia X
  • Availability: June to November 2026 (Google Flights)
  • Included services:
    • ✔ Personal item (40 x 30 x 10 cm)
    • ✔ Carry-on baggage (56 x 36 x 23 cm, max. 7 kg incl. personal item)
    • ❌ Checked baggage, with 20 kg total price from €166 via Trip.com / AirAsia
    • ❌ Catering
KUL LGW 129E

Alternatives: This largely depends on where in Asia you end up with your previous flights. A good option would be Kuala Lumpur – Colombo – Sri Lanka from €212 with SriLankan Airlines (incl. baggage). If you prefer East Asia: Seoul – Germany from €210 with T’way Air, or with Lufthansa for 400 Miles&More miles + €195 surcharge.

Flug 9: London – Dublin

As mentioned previously, this flight can be the first or last in your journey – or you can skip it entirely and go back to the place you’ve started.

The cheapest connection that matches our itinerary is available for £25 (~€29) w/ personal item, we’ve added €21 for 10kg of hold luggage, making €52 in total. There are plenty of other options with British Airways, Aer Lingus, EasyJet or BA Cityflyer – available from all of London’s 500 commercial airports.

  • Airline: Ryanair
  • Verfügbarkeiten: All year long (Google Flights)
  • Inklusivleistungen:
    • ✔ Personal Item (40 x 30 x 20 cm)
    • ❌ Carry-on baggage (55 x 40 x 20 cm, max. 10 kg) – approx. €25 extra
    • ❌ Checked baggage – 20 kg Gepäck approx. €35 extra
    • ❌ Catering
