The Route
The cruise begins in the coastal city of Southampton, England. The ship departs port in the late afternoon, heading first to Le Havre, France—the gateway to Normandy. Rebuilt after World War II, Le Havre’s city center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, or passengers can choose an excursion to the picturesque harbor town of Honfleur.
Following a day at sea, the Norwegian Star calls at La Coruña in northwestern Spain. Home to the Tower of Hercules—the world’s oldest working Roman lighthouse and a UNESCO site—the city blends maritime charm with Galician heritage. Nearby, travelers can also visit the historic pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela.
The next day, the ship docks in Leixões, serving as the gateway to Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city. Porto is renowned for its Baroque architecture and Port wine. The historic Ribeira district along the Douro River features narrow streets, vibrant facades, and the iconic double-decker iron bridge designed by a student of Gustave Eiffel.
The final European call is Ponta Delgada, capital of the Azorean island of São Miguel. Situated in the middle of the Atlantic, the island is known for lush landscapes, volcanic lakes, and 18th-century city gates along the waterfront.
Six sea days follow as the ship crosses the Atlantic Ocean toward Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas. Here, passengers can spend a day on white-sand beaches or participate in outdoor activities like ziplining. The 14-night voyage concludes in Miami.

The Ship
The Norwegian Star was built in 2001 and last renovated in 2021. The ship is 294 meters long and 32 meters wide, accommodating around 2,300 passengers in 1,174 cabins. It has a maximum speed of 23 knots.
Onboard, there are 13 restaurants (some with additional charges) and 11 bars and lounges. Norwegian’s dining experience is slightly above average compared to other major cruise lines, with a more American-style cuisine.
For entertainment, the ship features a theatre, casino, and nightclub. Those looking to stay active can make use of the fitness centre, sports court, and outdoor jogging track. Additionally, the wellness area includes a sauna, beauty salon, solarium, two pools, and six whirlpools.
