Route
Your cruise begins in Barcelona, where the ship will depart the port in the late afternoon around 17:00. The first stop is Marseille. One of the main attractions here is the Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica. It is located at the highest point of the city and consequently offers a beautiful panoramic view. Afterwards, the journey continues to Palma de Mallorca, where you can visit the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, among other sights. A leisurely stroll through the old town is also highly recommended.
Next, the Norwegian Escape sails to Cartagena. The port is located right by the city center, making many sights reachable on foot. The elegant Calle Mayor pedestrian zone features Art Nouveau architecture and is home to numerous shops and tapas bars. The port of Motril serves as the starting point for a day trip to the famous city of Granada to visit the Alhambra. The travel time from the port is approximately 45 minutes.
Via Cádiz, you will continue to Tangier in Morocco. The port is very centrally located, and the historic Medina (old town) can be reached on foot in just a few minutes or by taxi. There, a labyrinth of narrow streets, colorful markets, and the scent of spices awaits you. This is also a great place to find a souvenir or two.
The final stop is Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. Playa de Las Canteras is one of the best city beaches in Europe and is located just a few minutes from the center. Alternatively, you can explore the old town of Las Palmas with its beautiful colonial buildings. This is followed by 7 sea days across the Atlantic before the Norwegian Escape reaches its destination port of Port Canaveral in Florida after 16 nights.

Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$40 (~€35) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.
There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.
Editor’s Note: If you want to cross the Atlantic, this is one of the best options for this autumn. The ship offers plenty of activities, and with Freestyle Cruising, you are not tied to a fixed dining schedule like on other cruise lines. If you live in America, the ship sails to Barcelona a month earlier, meaning you could cruise to Spain and back for less than the cost of a business class flight—provided you have the time.
The Ship
Built in 2015, the Norwegian Escape can accommodate up to 4,200 passengers and approximately 1,700 crew members. She is 326 meters long and 41 meters wide, reaching a maximum speed of 23 knots. By the way, the ship was built in Papenburg, Germany. It features 15 restaurants and several bars, as well as a cinema, theater, shopping center, casino, pool deck, and Kids Club.
The ship is particularly well-known for its “The Waterfront” promenade, where you can dine alfresco right by the ocean, as well as for having one of the most spectacular high ropes courses at sea, including the famous “Plank.” Thrill-seekers will enjoy the large Aqua Park with its fast-paced Free Fall slide, while the spacious Mandara Spa offers a unique snow room to cool down.
The onboard language is English, which is why we recommend at least basic English skills. The onboard currency is the US dollar, and you can easily settle your additional expenses at the end of the trip using any major credit card.
