For the better part of two decades, Star Alliance member Singapore Airlines has been operating a fifth-freedom flight between Frankfurt, Germany and New York‘s JFK airport. Currently, round-trip tickets are once again available at a lower price, starting at €445. As is standard with the airline, the fare includes two checked bags of 23 kg and full board service, including alcoholic beverages like the airline’s signature Singapore Sling cocktail.
While other airlines might offer cheaper basic tickets, Singapore Airlines is the most affordable option once you include checked baggage. Departures are available for travel in November 2026 as well as between January and March 2027.

Singapore Airlines deploys their Boeing 777 fleet on these flights. It features a comfortable seat pitch of 81 cm, personal entertainment screens, and a more spacious 3-3-3 seat alignment compared to the 3-4-3 layout most airlines install in their Boeing 777 aircraft. Please note that the Airbus A380 is no longer scheduled on this route. The outbound flight to New York takes roughly 9 hours, while the return flight across the Atlantic is just over 7 hours.
Most Europeans need an electronic system for travel authorization (ESTA) to enter the USA for up to 90 days. This costs US$40 (~€35) and you should apply for it a couple of days before your trip, at the latest.
There are some cases where you cannot apply for an ESTA, e.g. if you’ve been to Cuba since 2021 or to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea since March 2011. In those cases, you’ll need to get a visa from a US embassy or consulate, which can take multiple weeks.
Search & Book
The fare rules do not state an expiration date. Availability can be found during the following periods:
- November 2026
- January to March 2027
A minimum stay of 3 days or a Sunday-night stay is required. You can stay at your destination for a maximum of 12 months.
You can find flight dates on Google Flights, although the correct pricing may only appear after you select a specific date combination. Alternatively, Singapore Airlines provides a best price calendar on their website, though it may also contain occasional pricing display issues.
You can book the flights through online booking platforms like Trip.com, Kayak, or Skyscanner, or directly on Singapore Airlines’ website starting at €440.
Editor’s Note: I’m a huge Singapore Airlines fan, so I admit I’m biased. Even without the A380 on this route, it’s still a great deal considering the price and the two checked bags. If you aren’t near Frankfurt, you can just book via their website and use Rail&Fly.
