The Route
The cruise departs from Civitavecchia, located about an hour from the Italian capital of Rome. The ship leaves port in the early evening and sets course for Genoa. Here, you will find one of the largest aquariums in Europe situated right by the old harbor. The Cathedral of San Lorenzo, located in the heart of the old town, features a striking black-and-white striped facade. Next, the ship heads to Livorno, which serves as an ideal starting point for a day trip to Florence or Pisa.
The next stop is Marseille. Le Panier, the city’s oldest district, features narrow streets, colorful facades, and vibrant street art. The following day, you will arrive in Barcelona, where the Sagrada Família and the famous Las Ramblas promenade are among the most popular sights. After a brief visit to Tangier in Morocco, seven relaxing sea days across the Atlantic will follow.
Following the crossing, three stunning Caribbean destinations await you. First is St. John’s on the island of Antigua. The striking Anglican cathedral with its twin white Baroque towers dominates the town skyline. Another highlight is Nelson’s Dockyard, a historically fully-restored British naval base in the south of the island. Next, you will sail to St. Maarten, where aviation enthusiasts can enjoy an excursion to the famous Maho Beach. The final intermediate stop is Basseterre before your 18-night journey concludes in La Romana.

The Ship
While MSC Opera is one of the older/smaller ships, it’s still very stylish and a great place to spend a week. It entered into service in 2004 as part of the Lirica class and went through a renovation in 2015. It boasts a huge theatre, many restaurants, pools, jacuzzis, a spa, a gym and even a minigolf course. The cabins look like most MSC ships:

Even MSC’s older ships have a beautiful and stylish atrium area:

And have a focus on wellness:

And it’s not MSC without all the other types of entertainment options:
