The Route
Your cruise begins in Barcelona. The Catalan capital is world-renowned for Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família and the bustling boulevard of Las Ramblas. The ship departs in the late afternoon around 17:00, setting course southbound along the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The first port of call is Cartagena. The cruise terminal is situated directly adjacent to the historic center, making exploring on foot effortless. A standout highlight is the remarkably preserved Roman Theatre, dating back to the 1st century BC.
The following day brings you to Gibraltar. The British Overseas Territory is famous for the Rock of Gibraltar, whose upper nature reserve is inhabited by wild Barbary macaques. Gibraltar also features an extensive military tunnel network carved into the limestone rock during the 18th century and World War II. From Europa Point, clear days offer sweeping views across the Strait of Gibraltar toward the coast of Morocco in North Africa.
Six consecutive days at sea follow as the Mariner of the Seas crosses the open Atlantic, bound for King’s Wharf, Bermuda. Known for pastel-hued cottages, colonial architecture, and famous pink-sand beaches, Bermuda is a true Atlantic gem. The iconic Horseshoe Bay Beach is easily accessible by a short taxi or shuttle ride from the Royal Naval Dockyard. Excursion options also include the capital city of Hamilton or the historic colonial town of St. George’s, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Following four more sea days across the Gulf of Mexico, the cruise concludes after 14 nights in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Ship
Built in 2003 and extensively refurbished in 2018 during a multi-million-dollar modernization, the Mariner of the Seas measures 311 meters (1,020 feet) in length and 48 meters (157 feet) in beam. The Voyager-class ship accommodates approximately 3,100 passengers and nearly 1,200 crew members.
Familiar from other vessels across Royal Caribbean’s fleet is the signature FlowRider surf simulator, one of the ship’s most celebrated active attractions. Other sports and recreation amenities include a full-size indoor ice-skating rink, a 40-foot rock climbing wall, an inline-skating track, a 9-hole miniature golf course, golf simulators, and a regulation basketball and volleyball court.
Guests seeking pure relaxation can retreat to the spacious Vitality Spa and fitness center, or the adults-only Solarium pool deck. If you are in the mood for shopping and socializing, the central Royal Promenade stretches down the ship’s interior, lined with duty-free boutiques, cafes, and pubs that remain lively throughout sea days. Evening entertainment features high-caliber theater productions, ice-skating spectacles in Studio B, and vibrant live music lounges.
Culinary options expanded significantly during the ship’s renovation, adding specialty venues like Jamie’s Italian by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and Izumi Hibachi & Sushi alongside the complimentary main dining rooms and Windjammer buffet.
The primary onboard language is English, and the onboard currency is the US Dollar. Any incidental expenses incurred during the crossing can be settled at checkout with all major credit cards.
