Air France’ and KLM’s frequent flyer program Flying Blue has extended its status match to many countries and programs. Previously, only British Airways Club members from the United Kingdom were matched. Currently, 13 European countries and 16 programs are eligible.
To secure this status match, you’ll need a corresponding status level. For instance, Silver at the British Airways Club can be matched to Silver or Gold at Flying Blue, while the Gold status is being rewarded with Gold or Platinum, depending on your choice.

The process typically takes three business days to be approved. Once approved, you will have the status with Flying Blue in your account within about five business days, and it will be active for twelve months. During this time, you will need to follow the guidelines of the points program to maintain your status with the airline.
To initiate the status match, you will need to pay an application fee, the price of which depends on the status you wish to apply for.
Residents of Germany, Belgium, Austria Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Greece & Italy pay the following fees:
- €89 for Flying Blue Silver (= SkyTeam Elite)
- €199 for Flying Blue Gold (= SkyTeam Elite Plus)
- €349 for Flying Blue Platinum (= SkyTeam Elite Plus)
These are prices for UK citizens:
- £79 for Flying Blue Silver (= SkyTeam Elite)
- £149 for Flying Blue Gold (= SkyTeam Elite Plus)
- £249 for Flying Blue Platinum (= SkyTeam Elite Plus)
Possible Matches
For Flying Blue Silver status (= SkyTeam Elite), the lowest tier in the programs listed below is usually sufficient. For example, a Miles & More Frequent Traveller (FTL) or British Airways Club Bronze status.
Flying Blue Gold (SkyTeam Elite Plus), requires:
- Aegean Miles+Bonus Gold
- Air Canada Aeroplan 50K
- American AAdvantage Platinum
- British Airways Club Silver
- Emirates Skywards Gold
- Finnair Plus Gold
- Gulf Air Falcon Flyer Gold
- ITA Volare Premium1
- Iberia Club Oro
- Miles&More Senator
- Oman Air Sindbad Gold
- Qatar Privilege Club Gold
- Singapore KrisFlyer Gold
- THAI Royal Orchid+ Gold
- Turkish Miles&Smiles Elite
- United MileagePlus Gold
These tiers are matched to Flying Blue Platinum (SkyTeam Elite Plus):
- Aegean Miles+Bonus Platin

- American AAdvantage Plat. Pro
- British Airways Club Gold
- Emirates Skywards Platinum
- Finnair Plus Platinum

- Oman Air Sindbad Platinum
- Qatar Privilege Club Platinum
- Singapore KrisFlyer PPS
- THAI Royal Orchid+ Platinum
- Turkish Miles&Smiles Elite Plus
- United MileagePlus Platinum
¹ The program was officially discontinued in March 2026, so it is unclear whether ITA status is still recognized.
In some cases, statuses eligible for a platinum match are also offered the cheaper gold match.
Instructions
Go to flyingblue.statusmatch.com/ba and enter your name, e-mail address and Flying Blue membership number. If you don’t have a Flying Blue account, you need to sign up for the program first.
If the data matches your account and your country of residency is eligible for the match, you can select the status you want to match. There is a drop-down menu that you can choose from. If your status is not part of that list, Flying Blue won’t match it.
The next step requires you to upload photographic proof of your current status. A photo of a physical card or a screenshot showing your name, number and status will do the trick.
The following and last step is the payment page. Flying Blue displays which status you’ll achieve with the match and presents you the bill. You can pay by all common credit cards.
Editor’s Note: While all three are pretty expensive, the cheapest match to FlybingBlue Silver pays off quickly – you probably save that money on your first long-haul flight with checked bags you won’t need to pay. Despite the higher price tag, matching to Platinum is better value than a match to Gold, as you get 2 years of SkyTeam Elite Plus out of it (1 year Platinum + 1 year soft-landing to Gold) instead of just one.
