Etihad Airways is offering a business class deal from Dublin to 7 destinations on East Asia, starting as low as €1,670 to Hong Kong. This offer includes 35 kg of checked luggage and all the business class perks except for the lounge, if you want to have lounge access you will need to book the Business Comfort fare for an extra €300. Departures are available until June.
As of writing, the Gulf area is involved in a military conflict, but Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways have both been operating normally since mid-March.
According to EU passenger rights, Etihad would at least be obliged to rebook you onto another airline for the outbound flight. However, these rights are regularly ignored by the airlines. In that case, you may have to pay upfront for an expensive replacement ticket and, if necessary, pursue reimbursement from Etihad through legal action.
In the worst-case scenario, such as a cancellation on the return flight, you could be stranded in the UAE and would have to cover all additional costs yourself, including replacement flights, hotels, etc. Travel and health insurance policies also generally do not apply in cases of war. In addition, most European governments issued travel warnings for the region, which also applies to transit in the Middle East.

First, you will fly from Dublin to Abu Dhabi, depending on your flight, either on the Boeing 787 or the Boeing 777, both equipped with lie-flat seats and a 1-2-1 configuration. You will then continue to Asia, where you will again either fly on the Boeing 787 or the Boeing 777.
Etihad has a good business class, which offers direct access to the aisle for all seats. Additionally, the food & drinks, as well as the service are hard to beat. The biggest weaknesses are its average entertainment program (which is becoming less important in the age of tablets and notebooks). Issues like the airline’s overpriced internet service and subpar business class lounge in Abu Dhabi are things of the past, as Etihad now offers better value packages and operates from a new terminal at its hub.

Editor’s Note: The price is great, but there is a catch given the current situation in the Gulf. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if it’s a risk worth taking. Personally, if I were looking to fly business class from Dublin to East Asia, I wouldn’t hesitate to book this for myself.
