The cruise includes full board with breakfast, lunch, and dinner (some speciality restaurants are excluded), as well as cold and hot water, coffee, tea, and milk with meals. Alcoholic beverages start at €3.95 (0.25L beer). All cabins feature double beds that can be converted into twin beds if needed. The ship offers a comprehensive entertainment and activity program, including options for children.
Since January 2025, Iceland has been charging a fee of ISK 2,500 (~€17) for each port call. We have already factored the converted amount of approximately €85 into the headline. In our cruise search, the listed price refers to the base cruise fare.
For entry into the UK, you must apply for an ETA in advance. It costs £20 (~€23) and is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires.
Route
The cruise begins on July 10, 2026, in Hamburg, where the ship departs at 7:00 PM. First, you will have two days at sea before reaching Seyðisfjörður in eastern Iceland. This small port town is known for its colorful wooden houses, its mountain-ringed location, and the famous rainbow street leading to the blue church. We highly recommend a walk through the town or an excursion to the nearby waterfalls.
On July 14, the ship docks in Akureyri and remains in port overnight. The city is considered the cultural hub of Northern Iceland. Excursions to the Goðafoss waterfall, the Mývatn region with its volcanic landscapes, or a whale-watching tour in Eyjafjörður are particularly worthwhile. If you prefer to stay in town, you can visit the botanical garden or the town’s distinctive church.
On July 16, you will reach Ísafjörður in the Icelandic Westfjords. Excursions to small fishing villages or a trip to the Dynjandi waterfall are great options here. Next, the ship heads to Reykjavík. Highlights there include the Hallgrímskirkja, the Harpa concert hall, and the waterfront promenade featuring the “Sun Voyager” sculpture.
A day at sea follows before you visit Kirkwall in the Scottish Orkney Islands. With its St. Magnus Cathedral, historic streets, and charming local shops, the small island capital makes for a wonderful destination for a relaxed day ashore. Excursions to the prehistoric archaeological sites of the Orkneys are also popular.
The journey continues to Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands. Here, you can take excursions to the famous Loch Ness, visit Inverness, or tour traditional whisky distilleries. After a final day at sea on July 21, the ship returns to Hamburg on July 22, 2026, at 7:00 AM.

Editor’s Note: In 2024, I took a 12-night cruise to the North Cape on the Costa Favolosa in an inside cabin, and it was a good experience. I would especially recommend booking an inside cabin for northern latitudes like Norway or Iceland; since the sun rises so early there, it allows you to sleep without being woken up by the early morning light.
The Ship
The Costa Favolosa (Concordia-class) entered service in 2011 and was last renovated in 2018. It accommodates up to 3,800 passengers and around 1,100 crew members. The ship is 290 meters long and 32 meters wide, with a tonnage of 114,500 and a maximum speed of 23 knots. It is equipped with a “Cold Ironing” system, allowing it to shut down its engines in port to reduce emissions. All Costa ships’ official languages are Italian and English. The onboard currency is the euro.
The ship has seven restaurants, with the buffet restaurant and the main restaurant (with table service) included in the cruise price. Drinks at the 12 bars and in speciality restaurants come at an additional cost. However, free water dispensers are available in the buffet restaurant, along with a type of juice and coffee/tea in the morning.
Additional facilities (subject to charges) include a cinema, theatre, shopping centre, casino, Grand Prix simulator, golf simulator, and a wellness area spanning approximately 6,000 square meters. This area features a thalassotherapy pool, various treatment rooms, a sauna, a Turkish steam bath, and a solarium.
For children, there is a kids’ club with different age groups. The ship offers both outdoor and indoor pools, the latter with a retractable glass roof—an advantage in colder regions or bad weather. There are also indoor and outdoor whirlpools.
