around Takayama Choice

Choice Privileges regularly offers discounts on buying points. We always like to highlight these deals, because buying points is a great way to save money on stays in places like Europe, Japan, and Australia.

Unfortunately, many appealing redemption options have now been wiped out. Without warning, the price for numerous hotels in Japan has been doubled. For example, the Comfort Hotel Tokyo Kanda was bookable for just 10,000 points per night a few weeks ago. Today, all hotels in Tokyo cost between 20,000 and 30,000 points. The price remains fixed year-round (as was previously the case):

The centrally located Comfort Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi also now costs 20,000 points per night. A few years ago it was 10,000, and most recently (if I recall correctly), 12,000 points. An alternative in Osaka remains the Comfort Hotel Shin-Osaka for 10,000 points.

In numerous other cities in Japan, redemptions are still available for 8,000 points per night. The devaluation seems to primarily affect Tokyo and Osaka. In those cities, redemptions are now only attractive in exceptional cases.
