The Route
Your journey begins in the Catalan metropolis of Barcelona. Arriving early gives you the chance to see Antoni Gaudí’s legendary Sagrada Família or stroll down La Rambla. The ship sets sail in the evening, calling first at Alicante on Spain’s Costa Blanca. From the port, you can easily walk into the historic center and hike or take the elevator up to the medieval Castillo de Santa Bárbara.
Next up is Málaga in Andalusia, where you can explore the 11th-century Moorish Alcazaba fortress, visit the Picasso Museum, or relax along the sands of La Malagueta beach just 15 minutes on foot from the terminal.
The ship then crosses the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier, Morocco—the historic “Gateway to Africa.” The port is within easy walking distance of the bustling Medina, where labyrinthine alleyways are packed with spice vendors, leather workshops, and tea houses. Leaving Morocco, the Carnival Sunshine begins seven consecutive days crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Before concluding in Miami, the ship makes a stop at Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands, famous for its turquoise waters and coral reefs.

The Ship
The Carnival Sunshine originally entered service in 1996 as Carnival Destiny (making history at the time as the world’s first passenger ship exceeding 100,000 gross tons) before undergoing a massive, top-to-bottom transformation and renaming in 2013. The ship measures 272 meters in length and 35 meters in width, accommodating up to 3,000 passengers alongside 1,000 crew members.
Aboard the ship, guests can enjoy a variety of complimentary dining venues, specialty restaurants, and lively lounges. Onboard activity highlights include the open-air ropes course (SkyCourse), the WaterWorks aqua park with spiraling waterslides, the multi-deck adults-only Serenity retreat, and the comprehensive Cloud 9 Spa featuring thalassotherapy pools and thermal suites.
The primary onboard language is English, and the onboard currency is the US Dollar (USD). Any incidental purchases and expenses incurred during your voyage can be settled at the end of the cruise using all major credit cards.
