Compared to IHG One Rewards, Hilton Honors, and others, Choice Privileges remains a niche program. This is likely because there are fewer properties in many European countries. However, the program shouldn’t hide from the competition in one specific area: it offers some incredibly attractive ways to redeem points.
Because of this, it can be very worthwhile to buy points during their regular discount promotions. Currently, through May 24, 2026, you can receive a 50% bonus when purchasing at least 4,000 points. This results in a price of approximately 0.592 Euro cents per point.
Choice Hotels is primarily known for budget brands like Comfort Inn. However, there are numerous partner hotels worldwide where buying points can be highly lucrative. Here are some examples of how you can save up to 69% compared to the cash rate by purchasing points:
- 69% savings: The Thief Oslo
for 20,000 points (€119) instead of €387
(Only bookable via a special landing page) - 61% savings: Hotel Around Takayama

Choice Hotels has devalued the redemption rates for various hotels in recent months, especially in Scandinavia. Always check the cost of your desired hotel before purchasing points, and don’t wait too long to redeem them.
Some of these promotions are targeted. It is possible that your account may see a lower bonus. If the deal link above doesn’t work, try this one.
Buy Points with a 50% Bonus
Purchasing points is possible year-round with Choice Privileges, but normally you pay around one cent per point. Through May 24, 2026, there is a 50% bonus on purchases of at least 4,000 points.
You get the best price when you buy at least 15,000 points in one transaction (before the bonus). This brings the price down to 0.592 Euro cents per point. In other words: 1,000 points will cost you €5.92.
The maximum purchase limit is 270,000 points for US$1,854 (~€1,593).

Points can take up to 24 hours to post to your account after purchase, though it often happens instantly. We recommend using a credit card without foreign transaction fees, as the charge is processed in USD. Please note that many debit cards are not accepted for these transactions.
Our conversions are based on the Visa currency calculator as of May 19, 2026.
Book Hotels from effectively €48
Once the points are credited to your Choice account, you can immediately begin redeeming them. In Europe and elsewhere, award nights start at 8,000 points per night.
If you paid 0.592 Euro cents per point, this corresponds to effective room rates starting at €48/night. The price varies by hotel category—with purchased points, you can expect the following effective rates:
- 8,000 points: effectively (47.36€)
- 12,000 points: effectively (71.04€)
- 15,000 points: effectively (88.80€)
- 20,000 points: effectively (118.40€)
- 30,000 points: effectively (177.60€)
In Europe, most hotels cost between 8,000 and 25,000 points. The most attractive redemptions are usually found in the 8,000 to 20,000 point range. However, it is always worth checking all categories before booking.
Since the beginning of 2025, award nights can be booked up to one year in advance (previously only 100 days). Furthermore, all award bookings are typically cancelable for free until shortly before arrival.
Points Don’t Expire with Activity Every 18 Months
Choice Privileges points expire if your account shows no activity for 18 months. However, as soon as you perform a transaction, the validity is extended for another full 18 months.
Your points remain valid indefinitely as long as you fulfill one of the following conditions every 18 months:
- Earn a point through a hotel stay
- Book an award night
- Buy at least 2,000 points

Status Match to Choice Privileges
Choice Hotels has offered a simple status match for a long time. While the benefits are relatively weak, it’s worth taking if you can get it for free:
Note that in Scandinavia, “Strawberry” has its own loyalty program with better benefits. You can redeem regular Choice points at Strawberry properties, but the status is generally not recognized between the programs. Similarly, hotels in Japan generally do not grant status benefits.
