Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) operates a daily night train between Bregenz on Lake Constance and Vienna. The route operates with new second-generation Nightjet rolling stock, and tickets are currently available at affordable rates:
Prices per direction start at €24.90 in standard seating cars, at €39.90 in couchette cars (including Mini Cabins), and at €59.90 in sleeper cars. Fares for couchettes and private compartments are especially competitive.
As a general rule, booking well in advance yields the best availability for the lowest fares. During peak holiday seasons, low-priced tickets tend to sell out quickly.
The lowest fares book into the non-flexible Sparschiene tariff. These tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable, similar to Deutsche Bahn’s Super Sparpreis conditions.
The Route
The night train operates daily in both directions. Outbound from Bregenz, the train departs at 21:40, transiting through Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Linz overnight before arriving in Vienna at approximately 07:00 the following morning.
In the opposite direction, the train departs Vienna shortly before 23:00, arriving in Bregenz at around 09:00 in the morning.

Comfort
The new-generation Nightjet trainsets feature three travel classes:
Seating Cars: Configured as open-plan coaches rather than traditional 6-seat compartments. Integrated headrest wings provide enhanced privacy.
Couchette Cars: Feature new Mini Cabins—compact, pod-like sleeping berths tailored for solo travelers and couples. Two adjacent lower or upper Mini Cabins can be connected by opening a sliding divider.
Standard 4-person couchette compartments are also available. ÖBB provides bed linen and a basic breakfast (coffee and bread rolls), though passengers make up their own berths.
Sleeper Cars: Accommodate up to 2 passengers per compartment. New Comfort compartments include an en-suite washbasin and shower wand, while Comfort Plus compartments feature a separate enclosed private shower. Passengers can choose from an à la carte breakfast menu.
