The Big Island is—as the name suggests—the largest island in the U.S. state of Hawaii. Spanning over 10,000 square kilometers (approx. 4,000 sq miles), it encompasses nearly every climate zone on Earth. Having visited twice, the combination of sandy beaches, lush valleys with waterfalls, and Volcanoes National Park with glowing lava at night makes it one of my favorite travel destinations.
If you are looking to combine sightseeing with relaxation, LuxuryEscapes currently has an attractive offer for the Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa on the western side of the island. When staying at least 5 nights, rates start at €192 per night for a double room.
A key highlight: this offer includes access to the Voyager 47 Club Lounge. Members receive daily continental breakfast, along with afternoon appetizers, cocktails, and other drinks (16:30 – 18:30). Early check-in is also granted starting at 12:00 instead of 15:00.
This rate is achieved by applying our promo code traveldealz10, which grants a 10% discount. It applies to both new and existing customers. More details on terms can be found here.
For guests arriving by rental car, self-parking costs approx. US$32 (~€28) per day.

The Hotel
The Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa is located on the western coast of the Big Island, just south of Kona town. Built directly on oceanfront lava cliffs, the property has no sandy beach. However, it offers prime snorkeling conditions directly off the coast. The resort also houses an on-site Manta Learning Center with educational info about manta rays that swim near the shoreline.
Formerly operated as a Sheraton, the resort underwent comprehensive renovations through 2024 and features 511 rooms and suites. Outdoor amenities include two swimming pools—one reserved for adults, and a family-friendly pool equipped with a waterslide.
The lowest-priced rooms offered in this deal measure 39 m² and feature a partial ocean view, which can be enjoyed primarily from the private balcony.

Access to the Voyager 47 Club Lounge is included with this offer. The lounge serves a light continental breakfast (07:00 – 09:30) and an evening reception (16:30 – 18:30) featuring rotating appetizers and drinks. Further information can be found on Outrigger’s website.

Location
Most resorts on the Big Island are situated on the western coast around Kona—including the Outrigger. Located south of Kona in Keauhou, there are few shops or restaurants within walking distance outside of the resort itself. The main town center of Kona is located roughly 10 kilometers (6 miles) away.
As noted above, the resort lacks a sandy beach on site. Kahalu’u Beach Park is a 5-minute drive away, while white sandy beaches are located further north near Waimea, roughly an hour’s drive away.

Public bus transit from Kona Airport (KOA) takes roughly an hour with a connection. However, renting a car is strongly recommended if you plan to explore the island, even with the local daily parking fee of $32/day (incl. tax).
Distances on the Big Island are considerable. Driving from the Outrigger to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park takes nearly two hours per direction. For longer stays, splitting your trip across two or three locations is advisable: staying near Kona for snorkeling and relaxation, combined with a stay near Hilo or the National Park to explore the lush eastern side of the island.
Reviews
The resort holds a 4.1/5 rating on Google Maps and a 4.5/5 rating on TripAdvisor. Critical feedback occasionally mentions dining choices or service speed, while praise focuses on the renovated rooms, public grounds, oceanfront setting, and the Voyager 47 Club Lounge.
Price Comparison
According to Google Hotels, standard rates for basic rooms typically start at around €270 per night, occasionally exceeding €300:

That standard rate applies to a basic room without lounge access or extras. Compared to that baseline, the Luxury Escapes deal offers savings of around 30% (e.g. November 4–9, 2026).
Booking directly on Outrigger’s website for the same Partial Ocean View room ($10/night upgrade) with Voyager 47 Club Lounge access ($60/night per person) totals €1,980 for 5 nights. Luxury Escapes charges at €920 for the exact same 5-night stay.

While lounge access value is subjective, the direct price savings are substantial.
