Good news for all frequent travellers with a status at SAS EuroBonus: The Latvian airline airBaltic is offering you a status match to their highest tier VIP! That will grant you lounge access, among other benefits.
To participate, you just have to register at airBaltic’s frequent flyer program airBaltic Club and send an email with a picture of your current status card, as well as a miles statement to info@airBalticclub.com.
The following statuses will be matched:
- SAS EuroBonus: Gold and Diamond
You’d be getting airBaltic Club’s VIP status, their highest available tier.
The status match is possible once for every customer. It is also a requirement that you got your current status by actually flying, and not through another status match.
Editor’s Note: While airBaltic used to match frequent flyers from more airlines, it remains one of the last few free status matches around. And it’s always better to have a status than not having a status – so take advantage if you plan to fly airBaltic in the near future.
airBaltic Club VIP
The airBaltic Club VIP status is the highest tier at airBaltic. Normally, you’d need 60 airBaltic flights, (Business Class flights count twice). It brings you the following benefits:
- Free seat reservation
- Business Class check-in, regardless of your ticket’s class
- Fast-Lane in Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn
- Lounge-access (incl. guest)
- Miles don’t expire
- 1 additional piece of luggage in all fares except GREEN
- 2 free carry-on bags
- 2 upgrade-certificates (apparently even with this status match!)
As airBaltic doesn’t belong to any alliance, there sadly aren’t any benefits at other airlines. This means that the status is only worth something if you’re actually planning on flying with airBaltic. The airline, however, does often offer good deals, especially in Northern and Eastern Europe.

About airBaltic
airBaltic operates one of the youngest and most modern fleets in Europe, consisting of 47 Airbus A220 (and 100 more on order), the majority of them delivered after 2020. From their hubs in Riga and Vilnius, the airline serves many European cities directly. It also offers connections from Western Europe to other countries along the Baltic Sea like Finland, Sweden or Poland. Their longest route is a non-stop service from Riga to Dubai.
Because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, airBaltic had to shrink its Eastbound network remarkably, as they are no longer allowed to use Russian airspace. That led to the cancellation of all flights to destinations in Russia, as well as their long-haul destinations in Kazakhstan. Sadly, your Club VIP benefits don’t apply on flights booked with these airlines, but operated by airBaltic.
